    The Royal Abbey of Saint Jean d'Angély was founded in 817 by Pépin, grandson of Charlemagne. Nowadays this is one of the key-buildings of the town's life, hosting for instance our music school, our library and a lot of cultural exhibitions. Mainly, it hosts the Centre for European Culture "Saint Jacques de Compostelle" : many pupils are welcome from all parts of Europe for sessions of cultural exchange now, and of course pilgrims are welcome too on their famous journey to Spain.
